My mentorship has become a partner in my education by expanding my knowledge. Sure, I don’t have to take a test, remember any vocabulary, or write many papers, but education is so much more than that. At my mentorship, I don’t receive any textbooks, but instead of reading about the career I want to obtain, I’m living it, participating in hands-on activities of my field choice. The things I’m doing at my mentorship are real, while what I do in school is conceptual, possibly never to be used again. At school, many times, students just learn the material for the test, and then quickly forget everything once the test is completed. At our mentorships though, we are gaining universal knowledge: etiquette, protocol, politics, and policies. There are certain skills that a person cannot gain without field work, and our mentorships provide the perfect foundation for those skills.
